Basic 7 Card Stud Poker 4th Street Strategy Your chances of winning at 7 card stud poker can be enhanced by using specific strategies. If you are new to this form of poker, you should ideally start with a basic 7 card stud poker strategy. One such that can be useful is the Fourth Street Strategy. This is used when you reach the fourth street or turn in the game. When you use this, you will also have to pay attention to what the street gives your opponents. Also look at how the players bet here, as this too can indicate their hand strength. Ideally, your hand should have good cards for the strategy to be most effective. Here are some good hands that you can have on the fourth street: Dominating Hands on 4th Street Two hands with the potential to dominate on the turn are four of a kind and three of a kind. This is because they can win the pot even without improvement. With both hands, you should ideally slow play to the pot. This way, the bets will have the chance to get doubled in that time. When you have four of a kind, it is best to have opponents with good hands, as they will raise or even re-raise to the pot. So, in such a situation, when you slow-play your hand, the odds of you winning the pot are very high. When you have three of a kind, there is the probability of an opponent drawing a straight or a flush and winning the pot. So, if other players appear to be limping to the turn and river with the intention of making such a hand, it is best for you to bet. This can push a few players out of the game. However, avoid pushing everyone out, as you can bring in cash by making players with a two pair or less stay on – provided you hit the winning hand. 2 Pair on 4th Street If you have a hand with a two pair, you will have to consider the strength of your top pair. With Aces high, you can opt to slow play, however, if tens make your top pair, it is best to jam the pot. A hand with a 2 pair can be strong at the turn, but can be beaten relatively easily if other players limp. Ideally, you should slow play this hand only if you are against less than three players with weak hands. In contrast, if you are against more than three players, make a bet that can help push out those who would have made a straight or flush draw had they stayed in the game. High Pair on 4th Street When you have a pair and the turn doesn’t allow you to improve there, your best option is to bet and force out players. If a player has paired his door-card such that it trumps your pair, it is best to fold. On the other hand, if the pair can be beaten, you can opt to either bet into or raise the bet. Mostly, a player with a pair will call your bet, but he may hit the pot with a three of a kind. A key aspect of this basic 7 card stud poker strategy is to know whether you are against a tight player who predominantly plays pairs. If so, the chances of him having a two pair or three of a kind in this situation are high. Here, it is best to fold and not risk your bankroll. |
